Panthers place seven at in top seven at Baldwin
The Panthers placed seven wrestlers in the top seven of their respective weigth classes in the event, which was won by Abilene High School.
In the 119 pound class, Dylan McKinney wrestled to second place in his pool with a 2-1 mark, defeating Mike Laster of Lansing and Nathan Forbes of Santa Fe Trail before losing to eventual overall champion Cody Tyler of Oak Park, Missouri, High School. In the third place match, McKinney lost a 3-1 decision to Colton Kraul of Prairie View.
Tanner Staats, wrestling at 125 pounds, was 0-3 in pool play, dropping matches to Luke Lee of Andover Central, Jake Umscheid of Andover Central and eventual runner-up Channing Hosey of Labette County. In the seventh place match Staats pinnned Justin Lozenski of Lansing.
Wrestling at 135 pounds, Mitch Mosley finished in fourth place in the class. Mosley had a 2-1 record in the pool matches, defeating Dennis Hall of Mill Valley, and Andy Thurlow of Baldwin before dropping his third match by fall to eventual champion Shae Hinman of Andover Central. In the third place match, Mosley lost by fall to Anthony Whittley of Labette County.
Tyler Henness took sixth place in the 145 pound weight class. In the pool matches, Henness had a 2-2 record, defeating Colton Grant of Labette County and Rob Ballard of Oak Park and dropping matches to Quninto Ford of Prairie View and eventual runner-up James Mullin of Mill Valley. In the fifth place match Henness was pinned by Joey Clevenger of Oak Park.
In the 152 pound class, Seth Helliker finished seventh overall, by pinning Dylan Ford of Mill Valley in the seventh place match. In the pool matches, Helliker had an 0-3 record, losing to Health Pamley of Baldwin, Hashem Omari of Oak Park and eventual runner-up Nathan Sommer of Prairie View.
Parker Staats, wrestling in the 189 pound class was 1-2 coming out of the qualifying matches, defeating Devon Minckley of Prairie View and dropping matches to Andrew Hewitt of Andover Central and eventual runner-up Steve Davis of Tonganoxie.
Rounding out the Panther placers was Spencer Trumbley, wrestling at 215 pounds, and finishing sixth. In the pool matches, Trumbley was 2-2, with wins over Ed Fitzgerald of Santa Fe Trail and Keith Ellis of Oak Park and losses to Brian Snodgrass of Lansing and eventual champion Taylor Wurthnow of Abilene. In the fifth place match, Trumbley lost a 3-2 decision to Leo Beck of Mill Valley.
The Panthers return to the mats on Saturday as they travel to Silver Lake for the Silver Lake Inviational.
