Panthers place eigth in top six at league
The Paola Panther Wrestlers finished in fifth place at the League Wrestling Tournament held Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Spring Hill High School. The Panthers finished with 118 points on the day, edging out Louisburg, which finished in sixth place with 116 points. Gardner-Edgerton took first place overall in the event with 177 points, rounding out the top five places were Ottawa with 148 points, Eudora with 145 points and Baldwin and Spring Hill ending tied for the fourth spot with 142 points.
Mitch Mosley wrestling at 135 pounds and Dylan McKinney at 119 pounds were the top finishers for the Panthers, both taking second place in their weight classes. McKinney was defeated by a fall to Tyler Stokes of Gardner in the championship match and Mosley was defeated 17-8 by Micah Flora-Swick of Gardner in his championship match.
At 125 pounds, Tanner Staats finished third, taking the consolation match by defeating Zach Atchinson of DeSoto by a score of 13-5. At 145 pounds, Tyler Henness defeated Greg Schiffenbein, 11-9 in overtime for third place. At 189 pounds, Parker Staats dropped the consolation match to Alex Gentges of Louisburg by a score of 6-4. Wrestling at 215 pounds, Spencer Trumbley finished third by defeating Brock Elliott 8-5 in the consolation match. At 285 pounds, Cale Karigan finished fifth by defeating Jesse Sloan of Spring Hill by a 10-4 count. At 140 pounds, Eric Timpe finished sixth by dropping a 5-0 decision to Tyler Crowe of Eudora.
The Panthers will return to the mats and to Spring Hill, as they will compete in the Regional Wrestling Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
