The Osawatomie-Paola Boys Swim team turned in another strong performance in front of the home crowd this time, as they placed second in their first home meet of the season, trailing Blue Valley Northwest by less than 100 points, 714 to 621. Bishop Miege finished a distant second at 338, followed by Bonner Springs (261) and Parsons (144).

“This was a very good meet,” said Head Coach Sarah Dorsett. “Coming in second, and not too far away, to a team like Blue Valley Northwest, is tremendous.”

Dorsett was pleased with the team’s overall development from top to bottom. The squad is developing depth in all events, so much so that Dorsett said she was able to max out entries in all 11 events for the day, which gives more chances to score and place higher in the team scoring.

“Blue Valley Northwest is a very strong team,” she said. “They placed fifth at the state meet last year, and most people may not know that the Kansas State Swim Meet is just one meet, all classes from 1A through 6A.”

Overall the team had six first place finishes, two seconds and four thirds. Stetson Jackson picked up two individual gold medals, winning the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:08.74, and the 100 Breast Stroke with a time of 1:13.53. Alex Weatherbie continued to shave time off his 50 Freestyle, winning the event in a personal best time of 22:65, and Jared Auten took first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 58.23. The 200 Medley Relay team of Weaterbie, Auten, Eli Waddel and Daniel Dorsett placed first with a time of 1:52.02 and the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Dorsett, Jackson, Auten and Weatherbie placed first with at time of 3:42.28.

Stetson Jackson hits the pad first in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:08.74 in the Osawatomie-Paola Boys Swim meet at the Miami County YMCA on Thursday, December 18. Jackson also placed first in the 100 Breast Stroke in the event. Below, Jared Auten swims for first place in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 58:23. The Oz-Paola boys finished second behind Blue Valley Northhwest in the meet. The team will take some time off for the Christmas Holiday and return to action on January 8, 2008 at Blue Valley West.

“Alex Weatherbie continues streaking down the pool, and set a personal best of 22.65, in the 50 Free,” said Coach Dorsett. “This time would have placed him in the top ten at state last year.”

Taking second place medals were Dorsett in the 100 Back Stroke with a time of 1:06.70 and the 200 Free Relay team of Gus Hart, James Teuscher, Weatherbie and Kyle Dietrich with a time of 1:39.98.

Third place finishes were Dietrich in the 100 Free with a time of 59.99, Hart in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:04.55, Dorsett in the 200 Individual Medley with at time of 2:30.76 and the 200 Free Relay team of Waddle, Jedd Froggett, Auten and Jackson with a time of 1:42.11.

“Stetson Jackson won his two individual races by very close margins,” she continued. “He is becoming a real clutch swimmer, and of course Jared Auten continues to do well.”

The Osawatomie-Paola Boys will take a break from the pool for the Christmas Holidays, and will return to action on January 8, 2009 at Blue Valley West.
